Create an energy / water saving app

Create an app to encourage people save energy / water. Here are just a few suggestions:

Don’t overfill your kettle

If we all only boiled as much as we needed rather than filling the kettle right up every time, we could save money and enough electricity in a single year to power the street lights in the UK for more than six months

Use energy saving bulbs

An energy saving light bulb uses up to 80% less electricity than normal bulbs and could last up to ten times longer
Switching to an energy light bulb could save you up to £45 before it needs to be replaced - not least save the environment!
If everyone in the UK installed 3 energy efficient light bulbs, this would save enough energy in a year to supply all street lighting in the country

Turn off your appliances

Turn off your appliances instead of leaving them on standby and you could save up to £37 a year.
If everyone in the UK turned off their TV properly every night it would save more than £66 million in electricity each year, which would floodlight 250,000 Premiership football matches!

Turn off the tap whilst brushing you teeth

Turn off taps properly. If the entire adult population of England and Wales remembered to turn off the tap when they were brushing their teeth, we could save 180 mega litres a day-enough to supply nearly 500,000 homes and fill 180 Olympic swimming pools.

Create a recycling app

Create an app to encourage people recycle. Suggestions:

Recycle household waste

For every ton of recycled glass turned into new products, 315 kilograms of extra carbon dioxide that would have been released during the creation of new glass are saved.
Recycling old aluminum uses only 5% of the energy used to make new aluminium.

Create an app to help someone learn a new skill. Suggestions:

Teach someone to sign their name

There are more than 8.9 million deaf and hard of hearing adults and more than 34,000 deaf children in the UK.

Teach someone a new language

Currently, between 6000 to 7000 languages are spoken in the world today.
Research shows that it is best to start learning a language at a young age with the best age to learn being around 7. However, it's never too late to pick up a new language.
Evidence shows that students who study a second language tend to perform better in other subjects.
